Hmmm

Hmmmmm

Well I thought write something new. Not that I have a lot to say.
I finished uni for the summer a few weeks ago, and I am just about getting to that stage where I am going out of my brains with bordem. There really is only so much gaming my wrists will take. And there are only so many brain cells for tv to melt. And only so many books to be read before my eye lids begin to drop. And now steam has buggered up somewhere and I can't play my lovely half-life or half-life mods. On the bright side I still kick-ass online, ok I lie more. It's more like I die until that one game where my the miracle of something everyone sucks more than me.

Oh well I think thats it for now, and if I forgot anything, well it isn't like anyone reads these.

Environmental Design in Computer Games

I have just had to write an essay on said topic. And there was so much that I found that was really interesting in the research that I did.

It really amazed me at how much a games environment can affect the player. The colour and the lighting can immensly affect a players state of mind. Like reds can bring on emotions that range from good feelings like warmth and comfort, but also feelings like anger and hostility. Sound aswell has a great affect on the player when used in conjunction with lighitng and colour. Finally it also makes sense that if the colours and sounds affect the player then the geometry of the space that they are in also affects the player.

I think the best example to use would be pretty much any horror game. They all seem to tend to incorporate rather claustraphobic spaces, made all the more small by dark colours from the red end of the spectrum. The loud/sudden sounds work to increase the scare factor on the player, awsell as the errie music that plays quietly. You can just imagine how much less scared you would be if everything was coloured and lighted in whites and colours from the blue end of the light spectrum. And there were no loud or sudden sounds.

I hope to post up my essay if possible, but I need the feedback on how well I did first. But I still thought it was interesting enough to post up a flavour.

Well this is all new

I thought I would make my first post brief, and just welcome everyone to the new site. I thought I would also congratulate the site staff for creating what looks to be a rather snazzy new site.

But no it shall not be brief. I shall have a small rant over Call Of Duty 4. I went a bought it today, and spent a fair few hours completeing it. I must say that it is as awsome as they have been saying it will be. The single player missions are incredably fast a furious, and the storyline just adds to all the drama. There is one level which confused the hell out of me, till I realised why I think it was added to the game. The level is called 'Aftermath' and it starts after the end of the previous level where a nuclear warhead has just detonated. You helicopter has crashed, and you seem to be the only survivor. You are badly injured and you get a minute or two to flounder about before you die. I was worried that it just wouldn't live up to the predecessors, with such a dramatic change in setting. but it more than lives up to the series reputation. And I await future games to the series.

I have yet to play online, but from what I have read and heard about it, it will be as much fun if not more so with it's incredible ranking system.
