Mod Showcase: Lost World Returns [Crysis]

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/zerofuzion/banner-1.png" alt="User Posted Image" />

Dinosaurs are something of a rarity in video games. Although the Turok series has long specialized in all things prehistoric, its most recent venture into the territory was mostly met with lukewarm reception. Overall, it was a standard shooter with very little to offer in terms of compelling gameplay. I know that may sound harsh, but that's only because I happen to be a huge fan of dinosaurs and the end result just really didn't justify my early anticipation for it.

Then 2007 came around and Crysis was released. Whether the game was anything more than an impressive tech demonstration is debatable, but no one can argue with the fact that CryTek's cutting edge engine had set a new benchmark in graphics technology. Like 3DMark, it rapidly became used as the ultimate test for gaming rigs everywhere, but what really caught people's attention was its potential as a development platform.

Aside from free open source 3D applications such as Blender, Valve's Source engine was undoubtedly one of the most common foundations used by independent developers for their projects, but there were those who felt that the SDK tools were outdated and not very user friendly. Obvious technical limitations also convinced some teams to migrate towards more advanced alternatives such as UnrealEd while others, like the creators behind The Lost World Returns, were attracted by the capabilities of CryEngine 2.

Set in present day, The Lost World Returns will put players on a tropical island filled with a wide variety of plant life from the Cretaceous period and number of prehistoric creatures, each with their own unique behavioral traits. The team has also gone as far as to bring aboard professional voice actors and writers to help them realize their vision.

The mod will include a plot driven single-player campaign, online cooperative multiplayer modes and a free-roaming photography mode similar to that of Pokemon Snap or Afrika.
