Brought back from a period of colonisation, the Hercules wasn't built with survivability or offensive power in mind, simply the ability to carry security forces and ground support weapons to at-risk colonies, they saw little use before they were quickly replaced by smaller more effecient warships. Although archer pods and a MAC had never graced the Hercules class before, recent demands in the war against the Covenant have rapidly depleted cruiser numbers in the UNSC, the decision to refit the remainder of the surviving Hercules class was made and the fleet quickly became content with their new cruisers. However, despite the Hercule's intimidating size, it became clear all it was actually good for was carrying a large ammount of Archers and MAC to bolster the weapons in a fleet, the out-dated design being unable to take the strain of rapid manuevering, and the large compartments designed to carry troops and equipment becoming fodder to Plasma weaponry.
