scriptedCharacter features

A scriptedCharacter is an OSMT creature that
is made to appear as the players and Bots do. Any
profile (even custom profiles) can be defined in
the editor, and along with model and skin and
sounds, you're able to edit their speech and
taunts. Although they look like players, use
weapons, and will follow players around by
default, they are not Bots, they are technically
NPCs. And although they can be set to a team of
players, they will not score points or pick up
items. With some AIscripting, they can use
Vehicles and Turrets as well.

Custom Creature Development : Golem

This model, created by King Mango, uses roughly
the same number of polys as a Leviathan, looking
more like the next-gen models in UT3, yet tests
show that this custom scriptedMonster will
run just fine in UT2004. He boasts fully
articulated face, hands and feet, as demonstrated
by the fierce expression in the running pose test.

I've made a rough skin for him (shown; will
be updated by another artist), rigged him for
animation and I'm plugging away the long list
of animation sequences he'll need. Along with
the basics (run, punch, death, etc), he'll
make use of a weapon attachment, a series of four
clubs he can weild for extra damage. Shown at
bottom is the stand-in club I'll use during
animation, but the final four designs will be
clubs made of wood, stone, iron and bone.

This custom creature will be used to demonstrate
how OSMT can be easily expanded upon to accomodate
any designer's theme. While more than 25
creatures come with OSMT, additional creatures
such as this guy or any of the other original
Unreal creatures (Titan, Queen, Mercenary, etc)
will be made available as a separate download.
This modularizes the extra creatures, allowing
mappers to pick and choose only the creatures they
need, which avoids unnecessary bandwidth.

OSM-Gauntlet

These are some scenes from OSM-Gauntlet, the
original example map for OSM Adventure.

The top image is from the intro cutscene, the
second image shows a room from one of the three
routes players can take on their way to the a
final confrontation (and suprise) shown in the
last image. This map shows off many, but not all
of the features of OSMT and OSM Adventure,
including branching Objectives, cinematic
cutscenes featuring the player character,
individual creature behavior (such as the sleeping
Krall in the second image or the Krall playing a
dice game in the third image), complex puzzles,
devious traps and advanced monster tactics.

Old Skool Monsta Toolz and OSM Adventure

This combonation shot shows aspects of what OSMT
offers. The new gametype, OSM Adventure, available
once an OSM map is in your UT2004/Maps folder.

A key tool used in OSM Adventure is the
OSMObjectiveManager, where you define Objectives,
award points or adrenaline for achieving them,
deinfe a default character profile, default
weapons, or specify a DeathScene matinee to show
upon player death, control cutscenes when
Objectives are achieved, specify playerstart to
toggle on/off, and more. This is just one example
of the comprehensive toolset OSMT gives.

Last, you see a few of the key AI settings
available with OSMT's scriptedMonster
class. Mappers/Modders can define Intelligence
level, AttitudeToPlayer, Orders such as Patroling,
Guarding, Ambushing, etc., Aggressiveness, and
much more. These settings work with included
NavigationPoint actors to define the best
locations to guard, ambush, patrol, alert
other creatures, trigger effects, spawn new
creatures, etc.
