A Chase

This is a great shot, taken by Quest I think
it's one of the best I've posted even
considering how plain it is. The skybox (the
planet below) was done by me using Universe and
somehow it just feels right. For once,
there's no explosions, debris or any special
effects getting in the way and yet it still evokes
the high level of action the mod has.

AT-ST Exploding

The AT-ST and Rebel Tank (inspired by Force
Commander) were two....I guess you'd call
them classes that don't get much play.

I find them extremely fun, if played on a proper
map - something SW:D has always lacked. With the
addition of those two classes (not to mention the
storm trooper that was removed) SW:D started to
stray again from it's name and became more
genric.

As a side note, I'm really interested in
that Star Wars Battlefield 1942 mod, it should be
great and everything that SW:D should've
been.

X-Wing on.....Kessel?

This is one of Quest's screenshots and
I'm not entirely sure what's going on
here. It could be just a skybox, but it seems like
a map to me, and if it is a map, I never saw it.

I should mention that the X-Wing model was really
what triggered the Roids: Arena concept to start
changing to SW:D. I found out a lot later the
model is from the famous Star Wars Quake: Call of
the Force - they dumped a lot of great models into
the community for free use when they switched to
Quake 2 - after that I stopped paying attention to
them.

That is, until they attacked SW:D in a thread on
their forum, claiming it to be, essentially,
AirQuake with new models. The debate raged on for
a few days and the thread was locked before anyone
could explain the misunderstanding. In the end I
felt kinda ticked off - but please, no one else
bring that one up again.

Fleeing from TIEs

Although this looks like the climactic sequence in
Return of the Jedi, it's really just another
skybox applied to roiddm2. Oh well.

It's interesting to note that SW:D changes
quite a few things taken for granted in Quake,
most notable there's a new palette used with
at least one major difference - a flourescent
green that is used for the Empire's blaster
cannons.

While this is not entirely accurate to the films,
particularly A New Hope where TIEs are quite
clearly shown firing red blasters/tubolasers, it
is accurate to Star Wars Rogue Squadron, which is
the game I took most of my inspiration from.

Besides, in a massive confusing battle it's
much more helpful to know who is shooting at who -
especially since many of the ships are excessively
gray.

Assualt on the Death Star

This is, of course, just a skybox applied to the
included roiddm2 map, but it was a particular good
skybox I made with SkyPaint. It's a shame all
the various skyboxen and unfinished maps
didn't make the cut in the alpha release.

Millenium Falcon

This is one of Quest's shots, he and Tomaz
apparently always played as the millenium Falcon -
no wonder, the ship has two linkable cannons that
fire two shots each and is one of the heaviest
armored ship in the game.

There's a reason of course, the Millenium
Falcon and Slave One were supposed to be
'secret' and unique ships that were only
accessible a special way. I decided that this
special way would involve capturing something -
ala picking up a weapon in Quake. The whole idea
was scrapped when I started work on BaseWars.

More rebel scum meeting their doom

This probably was an earlier shot than the rest as
there isn't quite as much smoke or debris,
either that or I managed to capture the explosion
just as it occured. I think the latter.

I spent a lot of time flying around the TIE
advanced, during testing the TIE-A had a fully
functional hyper drive with 30 blasts in it and it
was great to zoom around the map, fight a little,
and zoom out. You can even use the hyperdrive as a
weapoin, but be careful not to while on max power
on the engines :)

Another Explosion

The explosions in Tomaz's SW:D engine were
just beautiful, words cannot describe them.
Combined with the high resolution full color
explosion sprite generated with LordHavoc's
lhfire and the smoke from the various debris that
fly off into space, it's a captivating event
that begs you to press the screenshot key :)

This is actually a DID map, and I was just testing
ground vehicles on. Harb from the ELF team (which
made DID) was onboard as a mapper for a little
while, but like so many mappers, didn't
produce much.

Actually, he made one of only about 4 maps that
we had - it was unplayable though, just a huge
Star Destroyer. I should put a few ents in it and
spiff it up, it might be interesting.
