The Roman Praetorian Guard is one of three mercenaries who is only available for Romans. Praetorians are "Guards", in TAA terms this means they counter other mercenaries. Furthermore they are "special" mercenaries, which means that they can be upgraded. Praetoriani do have a lot of hitpoints, are very strong in melee (+60%mr), but are vulnerable for ranged attacks.

Roman Archaic Age

You see a Roman-Etruscan town in the first age (which is called 'Archaic Age' in TAA) with Houses, Barrack, Market, Town Center, Temple, male and female Citizens, Etruscan Hoplitai, Voluntarii, a Priest and a Scout. Etruscan Hoplitai are only available in Age I (so called "Archaic Unit Type 2"), while the weaker Voluntarii ("Archaic Unit Type 1") are available in all ages and can also be upgraded.

May 2009

Imperial Equites are available in Age IV. In opposite to all previous Equites, the Imperial Eques upgrade comes with a new additional weapon, the "spatha", a cavalry longsword. with this addition it will be much easier for Equites to face tougher enemies. However, this service benefits only the ones who are willing to pay more!

February 2009

Imperial Legionarii will only be available in the Campaign "Age" which is the TAA replacement for the Revolution feature. These veterans are remarkably good fighters and are also able to construct bases and provide themselves with everything they need to survive. Without 'em you're nothin'!

Bireme

Monoreme » Bireme » Trireme » Quadrireme » Quinquereme

The Ancient Age will come with only one type of warships. This has both, historical and technical reasons. There were hardly any other warships of any relevant importance and in view of technical modding limitations there's just one 3D-model that suits the shape of an Ancient warship. However, the Monoreme is different to the standard warships in AoE3. It can only carry 10 units, there is no broadside attack. You neither can't fish with it nor recruit units, however, you can cause a lot of damage by ramming hostile ships and attacking buildings and land units. Monoremes have a group bonus, that means like Tashunke Riders in AoE3 they are stronger in detachments. Prepare for big sea battles!
